Hospitalization due to Respiratory and Cardiovascular diseases in Bedouin Population Residing in the Vicinity of Ramat-Hovav Industrial Park

The objective of the present study was to test the hypothesis that hospitalization rates due to respiratory and cardiovascular problems among the Bedouin population over the years 2000-2004 are associated with residency near the industrial park, and to compare the trends over time (1995-1999). This ecological study included the entire Bedouin population, stratified by gender, age groups and locality type.

Vulnerability to Depression among Bedouin and Jewish University Students

This study investigated the Dependency and Self-critical personality vulnerabilities to depression among Bedouin and Jewish university students using a sample of 96 Bedouin students and 96 Jewish students. Bedouin students were found to present higher levels of self-criticism, dependence, and depression. In addition, they present lower levels of social support.

This paper describes the planned stages of a project aimed at adapting a waste recycling process based upon anaerobic digestion and compo-station technologies, for the organic solid wastes produced in the unrecognized Negev Bedouin villages. It also gives a thorough review of environment and health conditions in the unrecognized Bedouin villages and examines suitability of biogas recycling systems to the Negev-Bedouin communities.

This study focuses on the mathematical self-concept of mathematically promising students, participating in "Kidumatica" - a prestigious extracurricular, after-school math club, which integrates Jewish and Bedouin students. Bedouin girls' mathematical self-concept was found to be significantly lower than the Jewish girls’. In all other comparisons, no significant differences were found. Possible explanations for this phenomenon are discussed. |

The paper explores the legal history of the land disputes between the Bedouins and the state, and the contradictions between the legal arguments of the state and the Bedouins regarding claims for land. It also explores the validity of Bedouin traditional ownership within the Bedouin community and its regard by Zionist institutions prior to the establishment of the state of Israel, and the relevancy of customary law in determining claims for land in the present.

The paper examines differences in emotional reaction between Jewish and Bedouin mothers after the birth of a preterm infant. The author had 3 main goals: 1) comparing depression and anxiety measures after giving birth to a preterm infant and a regular infant; 2) finding possible associations between depression-anxiety measures and coping strategies among Jewish and Bedouin mothers; 3) building a cultural adjusted intervention program for Jewish and Bedouin mothers facing early emotional reaction after the birth of a preterm infant.

This paper strives to evaluate in what stage stand indigenous peoples in their countries of residence and to trace their struggles against existing developments of states' land policies. Thus positing the Negev-Bedouins' stage in the process of recognition by the state of Israel. In this framework, the author examines the Goldberg Committee Recommendations extent of applicability. Israel is compared to Australia, Canada and Brazil in order to define the level of its democracy in the context of indigenous land claims.
