A Tribute to Rosalind Henwood, of Blessed Memory

Rosalind Henwood, one of our most cherished friends and benefactors, passed away in Florida in December, 2009. Rosalind Henwood's deep convictions and commitment - to her people, to Israel and, in particular, to education - marked her career and shaped her life. She was the archetypal "woman of valor" who embodied, in both spirit and deed, the essence of Jewish values.

Rosalind Henwood's unique business acumen was renowned. The U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board awarded her company, Flying Cargo, its first license as an Indirect Air Freight Carrier. With offices in New York and Manila and headquarters in Hong Kong, the company, which she built up from nothing through ingenuity and hard work, pioneered many innovations in the field of air freight and soon expanded into such fields as travel, air charter and trucking.

Rosalind's involvement with and support of Ben-Gurion University - as a member of the exclusive Ben-Gurion Society and a Board Member of both the University and the American Associate - were part of the last chapter in the long saga of her life. The true focus of her passion for the University was our students, to whom she referred as the "wonderful young men and women [who] are the future of the nation!". She was awarded an honorary doctorate by BGU in 1996.

Rosalind Henwood generously supported our students through her scholarship fund beginning in 1994. Over the years, well over six hundred students have benefitted from her gifts. The Henwood Scholarship Fund will bear her name in perpetuity and continue to support her legacy for years to come.
