Research Interests:
Physiological ecology; animal-environment energy and water exchange; physiology of thermoregulation and osmoregulation in desert animals; avian respiration; thermoregulation and osmoregulation and their role in flight duration, especially in migrating birds; physiological ecology of desert bats.
Research Projects:
(a) Reproductive physiology in the European free-tailed bat and Hemprich’s long-eared bat in the Negev and its effects on foraging behavior, with Dr. Carmi Korine and Shai Daniel; (b) Dietary energetics and community ecology of desert insectivorous bats, with Dr. Carmi Korine; (c) The role of ethanol in nutritional and sensory physiology of frugivores with Dr. Carmi Korine, Dr. Robert Dudley (U.C. Berkeley, Francisco Sanchez and Shunit Mazeh, (d) Oxalate metabolism in fat sand rats, with Dr. Itzick Vatnick (Widener University), Dr. Carmi Korine and Niv Palgi; (e) Respiratory gas exchange in anti-lions with Efrat Elimelech and in other animals (bats, birds, lizards, etc.) with Dr. Carmi Korine, Prof. Zvika Abramsky and Dr. Amos Bouskila, (f) Para-cellular sugar absorption in Egyptian fruit bats and dabb lizards bats, with Drs. Chris R. Tracy and William H. Karasov.
