Applications are now accepted for the fall semester of 2010 and the spring semester of 2011, separately for each semester. The 2010 fall semester commences on October 10th and ends 3 months later at January 8, 2011. The 2011 spring semester commences on Febuary 20, and ends 4 months later at June 17, and includes 10 days break for Passover.

This Visiting Scholar position provides an opportunity to spend several months in the city of Eilat and conduct research in one of the most intriguing Middle-East resort areas. The city of Eilat, located in the southern tip of Israel has become a flourishing resort center, the largest of its kind in Israel. The city is neighboring the adjacent Jordanian port city of Aqaba, and the sandy resort beaches of the north-eastern Egyptian Sinai Peninsula. The blue waters of the Red Sea and the surrounding granite mountains supply a picturesque working environment.

Applicants will be requested to teach a weekly class of 3 hours in English, for 13 weeks. They will also be requested to apply their own field of research to a case study of Eilat and its surroundings. Successful candidates will be requested to conduct research, produce and publish (in due course) at least one paper that will state the fact that the research was done or initiated while being a visiting scholar in the Eilat Campus of Ben-Gurion University.

Candidates with a doctorate degree and rich teaching, research and publication experience in hospitality, tourism, leisure studies, or related fields will be considered. This Visiting Scholar Position best suits academics on sabbatical leave. Post-doctorate graduates are also invited to apply.

The Eilat Campus will compensate the visiting scholar with a total of US$6,000 per semester. Although we offer our assistance in suggesting accommodation, we do not cover the cost which starts from about $500 a month.  The candidate is requested to take care of his/her health insurance. Travel expenses are not included.

A candidate may offer more than one course for selection. Each course must be accompanied by a detailed syllabus. While in Israel, contact may be established with other Israeli scholars specializing in tourism studies in all universities including our main campus in Beer Sheva.
