Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing

This track instills its students with practical skills in advanced technologies in spatial analysis, with and emphasis on Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Faculty members who are engaged in this research theme:

Prof. Dan Blumberg

Dr. Itzhak Katra

Dr. Tal Svoray

Research Centers and Laboratories:

GIS Lab

The GIS lab deals with ecological, hydrological, and geomorphologic studies of arid regions, and develops dynamic spatial and temporal models, whilst integrating data from remote sensing and GIS.  Eight research students work in the lab on projects which are funded by foundations such as The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, international foundations and different government ministries.

Remote Sensing Lab

The Remote Sensing Lab focuses on environmental and planetary research using remote sensing equipment, including the use of land, air, and space-based systems. Fifteen research students from different academic backgrounds use the lab. Some examples of studies which are carried out in the lab: soil moisture estimation by radar systems, hyper-spectral remote sensing, and planetary aeolian processes.
