Notes:
Schedule for this year (2011-12) is listed under Academic Programs/courses - Please check!
Our research and teaching interests reflect the two central disciplines studied in the department—literature and linguistics—in addition to a broad array of humanistic and interdisciplinary orientations.
Research areas in literature include feminist and cultural studies, postcolonial theory, the history of reading, psychoanalysis, cognitive poetics, and modern Jewish studies.
Research interests in linguistics span the areas of syntax, semantics, phonology, the lexicon, pragmatics, language acquisition, neurolinguistics, applied linguistics, and communication theory.
The department enjoys a well-earned reputation for being friendly, open, and supportive. Students come from diverse backgrounds, creating a pluralist academic community. All courses in the department are taught in English.
The BA degree programs provide a firm foundation in English literature and linguistics. We also offer programs in which literature and/or linguistics are combined with other disciplines, such as education, psychology, history, philosophy, etc. The BA program in Cognitive Science is a well-developed interdisciplinary area for undergraduate linguistics students.
Our interdisciplinary orientation is fully implemented in our MA program in Literature, MA in Linguistics and a Combined MA Program in Literature and Linguistics.
