On January 16th 2002, we have celebrated the first terrestrial conference of and for graduated students of the Dept. of Middle East Studies at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. This project was initiated by stuff members and M.A. and Ph.D students of the department. This project was based on the idea of creating an academic frame for students to present and discuss their study in the various stages of their academic advancement. This first conference represented faithfully the idea and its realization. Graduated students organized the conference, M.A. and Ph.D students from all over the country presented their papers before an audience of scholars, students and others who found the discussions` subject interesting.
Under the headline of "Everyday Life in the Middle East" there were three theme sessions on: Mixed Cities, The Construction of a Modern Order and its Implications, and Science, Law and Custom. In each session there were presented new and deferent studies that were made or in a process of research on diversity of place, time and interdisciplinary case study in the Middle East.
